The National Coordination Centre (NCC), operating within the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA), have recently launched the CYBER+ALT Grant Scheme. This initiative aims to empower businesses in tackling cybersecurity threats by strengthening their overall cybersecurity and resilience.

Managed through a public open rolling-call with periodic cut-off dates, interested eligible undertakings can submit their applications to participate in the scheme. It will remain operational until 29th December 2023, subject to the availability of funds.

The Cyber+Alt Grant Scheme is accessible to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) engaged in an economic activity, with certain exclusions. Successful applicants can receive non-repayable cash grants ranging from €20,000 to €60,000, representing 80% of eligible costs.

To qualify for the grant, proposed solutions must align with one of the following five actions:

  • Threat detection and response
  • Vulnerability management solutions
  • Identity and access management
  • End-to-end data protection
  • Enhanced cloud-based platform security

Eligible costs covered by the scheme include cybersecurity solutions, hardware, subscriptions, licenses, staff training costs, and implementation expenses.

It’s important to note that the Cyber+Alt Grant Scheme operates under the De Minimis aid rules, providing undertakings with an overall capping of €200,000 (or €100,000 for single undertakings in road freight transport) over a three-year rolling period.

By leveraging these grants, SMEs can invest in robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard their operations from evolving cyber threats. It is also a great opportunity for financial entities working on a successful DORA implementation plan.  Funds are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
