Matthew Zampa

Founding Partner

Matthew is a certified public accountant specialised in VAT. He has been specializing in VAT since 2008 and has been involved in complex VAT assignments both within and outside of Malta. Matthew, a member of the Malta Institute of Accountants is also a part-time lecturer with the Malta Institute of Taxation.

Matthew Zampa is also the first Maltese to successfully complete the Expert in EU VAT degree, a degree administered and awarded by the VAT Forum, an international partnership of indirect tax specialists, founded in 1999. He is also a joint author of the European VAT Handbook, a manual providing essential information about VAT in Europe.

Matthew forms part of the indirect taxation committee of the Malta Institute of Taxation and is one of the council members of IFSP.

Christabel Spiteri

VAT Leader

Christabel Spiteri, is an ACCA Qualified Accountant who has been working at Zampa Debattista for over seven years and has been specialising in VAT for over five years. She currently holds the role of VAT Leader and is responsible for the VAT Compliance Division of the firm. She also forms part of the management team of the firm with a particular focus on quality at large. 

Christabel, has gained her technical experience lecturing through ZD Academy and other external institutions. She is currently reading for the EU VAT Expert Degree, a degree awarded by VAT Forum, a partnership of international VAT experts registered in Belgium.

Stephan Piazza

Head of Legal & Transport

Stephan’s role as coordinator for the firm’s legal and transport projects sees him at the forefront of some major engagements within the firm’s corporate and transport practice. Stephan provides assistance in connection with the importation and tax compliance of luxury assets, registration of aircrafts and AOC application with the Civil Aviation Directorate at Transport Malta, advice upon the local and EU legal framework concerning drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles and is also able to provide support in aircraft financing transactions.

In addition to the above, Stephan also has extensive experience in the corporate law space having assisted several clients with the set-up of corporate vehicles and ongoing compliance. He lectures ACCA students in the field of corporate law and has frequently contributed to a number of articles in both local and international journals.

Stephan is warranted to practice law in front of the Superior Courts of Malta. He is also an Executive Committee Member and Chair of the Education Committee of the Malta Maritime Law Association, Secretary of the Superyacht Industry Network Malta.

He has also published a number of articles in both local and international journals. He collaborates with the University of Malta and the Malta College of Arts Science and Technology as an external examiner and has delivered lectures at the ELSA Malta Summer Law School.
