Let's see how far our passion takes us

ZD was founded in 2014 by experienced professionals who, prior to starting their own venture, had accumulated over a decade of expertise in accounting and assurance, with specialisations in Indirect Taxation and Financial Reporting.

Since its inception, Zampa Debattista has evolved into a comprehensive business advisory firm, extending its services to include Direct Taxation, Financial Advisory, and Assurance.

In 2019, the company launched ZD Academy, an innovative platform offering highly technical courses for accountants and auditors.

Following a merger with Mint Finance in 2022, Zampa Debattista now comprises a team of over 70 highly trained and dedicated professionals.

As a member of the Russell Bedford global accounting network, it collaborates with firms in more than 100 countries, addressing international tax, accounting, and audit requirements.

Meet the Team

Founding Partner

Matthew Zampa

Matthew is a certified public accountant specialised in VAT. He has been specializing in VAT since 2008 and has been involved in complex VAT assignments both within and outside of Malta. Matthew, a member of the Malta Institute of Accountants is also a part-time lecturer with the Malta Institute of Taxation.
Matthew Zampa is also the first Maltese to successfully complete the Expert in EU VAT degree, a degree administered and awarded by the VAT Forum, an international partnership of indirect tax specialists, founded in 1999. He is also a joint author of the European VAT Handbook, a manual providing essential information about VAT in Europe.
Matthew forms part of the indirect taxation committee of the Malta Institute of Taxation and is one of the council members of IFSP.

Kris Bartolo

Kris is a Certified Public Accountant and Registered Auditor specialising in assurance services and international financial reporting standards.
Kris graduated from the University of Malta after completing the Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) Degree. Following four years as an audit senior at a medium-sized audit and accountancy firm, Kris joined Zampa Debattista, a boutique accounting and assurance firm primarily focused on international business, managing the audit function.
Throughout his work experience he was exposed to assurance assignments on wealth management, pension funds, gaming companies, shipping, manufacturing and retail. In 2021, he was appointed a Partner at Zampa Debattista.
Kris also read for the Diploma in International Financial Reporting and is a lecturer of Corporate Reporting at the advance stages of the ACCA course.

Michael Agius-Vadala`

Michael is a Certified Public Accountant and Registered Auditor, specializing mainly in audit and accounting.
Michael was admitted as a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Malta Institute of Accountants (MIA) in 2013.
He spent seven years working within the audit service line within one of the Big 4 audit firms in Malta. In 2017, Michael co-founded Mint Finance, an accounting and audit firm which eventually merged with Zampa Debattista on 1st January 2022.

Mark Wirth

Mark is a Certified Public Accountant and Registered Auditor, specializing mainly in client accounting and business advisory services.
Mark graduated from the University of Malta after completing the Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) Degree back in 2010.
He spent seven years working within the tax and audit service lines within one of the Big 4 audit firms in Malta. In 2017, Mark co-founded Mint Finance, an accounting and audit firm which eventually merged with Zampa Debattista on 1st January 2022.
Throughout his career, Mark has advised several clients operating in various industries, both locally and abroad.
Mark also lectured the tax module of ACCA in recent years.

Brandon Gatt

Brandon Gatt, a Certified Public Accountant in possession of an ACCA degree, has been in the profession for the past 10 years and has been involved in VAT assignments both within and outside of Malta.
Brandon is only the second Maltese professional to successfully complete the EU VAT Expert degree, a degree administered and awarded by the VAT Forum, an international partnership of indirect tax specialists, founded in 1999.
Brandon also provides in-house training to established companies within and outside Malta and is also a lecturer with the Malta Institute of Taxation, Malta Institute of Accountants, ZD Academy and he also lectures the ACCA Advanced Taxation (VAT). He also forms part of the Malta Institute of Accountants Indirect Taxation Committee.
